We had a complete shower installed in April 2006 for $3335.00. After installation we had a leak and about 4 servicemen came over the course of about 6 months and could not find the leak. Finally someone from the Kingston,
New York office came and found it to be the drain. In the meantime, we had to remove the bathroom ceiling in the bathroom below due to damage. Bath Fitters have redone the bottom caulk at least three times due to black mold
growing around the base. I was told at that time that it was coming up from below the base since there is moisture underneath the base. Now the back and one side wall is billowing and the base is loose in spots. Also, black mold is again in the caulk. I called our local Albany, New York office to have the caulk replaced and the walls checked and I am told there is $140.00 charge to come out and it would be refunded if we had the work done. I was also informed that warranty is only for 5 years. The serviceman came, I showed him the problems and also the downstairs ceiling
that had to be replaced. He state that a bleach product needed to be used to get rid of the black mold and I told
him that is what I used but was told by previous servicemen that it came from underneath. I was then given a quote of $1600.00 to replace the whole shower. I them asked for a quote to replace the bottom to remove moisture from underneath and was quoted over $1100.00. If I just had the caulking done, (which would not eliminate the problem)
they would guarantee the caulk for 90 days. It seems to me that if the leak was fixed properly at that time and the moisture eliminated, the problem of black mold coming up from beneath would never have occurred. I feel that the offers that your office have given to us does not represent the problems you have created for us. The fix should be, the base replaced properly, walls secured, moisture eliminated and seams caulked.
